Books

Bookish things

When I’m not writing or researching my family history, I’m often on Pinterest looking for things that inspire me. Old books do that quite well, and I often find myself daydreaming about their contents, especially if they are journals or diaries. Here are some of my favorite pictures.

Radio Waves

Recently I had the pleasure of doing an interview with Greg Thomas S., Public Affairs Host of “Conversations” which airs Sunday mornings at 6:00 a.m. on KNDD, KISW, KKWF, KHTP in the Seattle, Washington area. We talked about one of my favorite subjects, genealogy, and how it impacted the story line in Braha. Greg was so delightful to speak with, and…

Balm for the Soul

I was very excited to receive two, new, very positive reviews for Braha over the last couple of weeks. Positive reviews never get old and are always encouraging for authors. If you’ve ever read a book you’ve loved, I strongly urge you to send the author a note on Twitter, Facebook or via the author’s website, letting him or her…

Lisette’s Writer’s Chateau

I was invited to be a part of Lisette Brodey’s Writer’s Chateau this week! We talked about Braha and some of the methods to my madness when it comes to writing. I even revealed a few secrets. I hope you will stop by a visit us. If you have other questions I haven’t answered yet, you can always post them here. Click…

Kirkus Reviews: Wicked Family Secrets

In Mangano’s debut mystery, a writer [sic] returns to her hometown to investigate the death of her grandfather and ends up uncovering wicked family secrets. Linden St. Clair returns to her hometown of Somerville, Calif., after the death of her beloved grandfather, who raised her after the deaths of her parents. The mystery surrounding his death only intensifies when Linden realizes her grandfather left…

Finding Leena

Mumu spoke the language of children. Accompanied with a smile and a hug, it has no verbal barriers. After writing about my childhood friend Leena, I became very curious about tracking her down. I’ve never done something like that, so I was feeling rather Nancy Drew-ish. Thanks to my raging insomnia, I had the opportunity to do a little searching…

Finnish Dreams

When I was growing up, one of my favorite friends was a Finnish girl named Leena (pronounced Lay-neh). Actually she was half German, but that side of her family might as well have been non-existent because that family lived and breathed Finland. Her one hundred percent Deutsche father was some kind of salesman and traveled regularly. I saw him perhaps…
