Flash back to when I was seven years old. We were getting ready to go on an extended vacation to visit my mother’s relatives and the day before we left on our journey, my mother decided to take my sister and me to the salon for matching haircuts. Something cool and chic that would be easy to maintain during our…
Happy Stuff
Willie the cat
Whenever things get tough and I start to feel sorry for myself, I like to think of our cat Willie. He has suffered greatly since the day he was born and has many handicaps, yet he’s the happiest, most contently creature I know. Willie was bitten by his mama shortly after his birth, a tragic mistake that should have taken…
Everything old is new again
When I changed my blog from a write about anything that suits me blog to my author blog, many of my posts were put on hold because they had nothing to do with my book. They have everything to do with my life, however, so I’ve decided to re-post some of my favorites. Hope you enjoy them as much as…
Bookish things
When I’m not writing or researching my family history, I’m often on Pinterest looking for things that inspire me. Old books do that quite well, and I often find myself daydreaming about their contents, especially if they are journals or diaries. Here are some of my favorite pictures.

The Complexity of DNA
It felt like I was a liar. All my life I had been telling people I was half German, possibly more. After all, my mother’s family and ancestors were all German for hundreds of years, and there was also German on my father’s side of the family. The other side of my family was mainly English and French. When my…
Journey to the Countryside
A few weeks ago, my husband and I had the pleasure of visiting relatives in New York. It was a trip like none other for me, for it gave this city and suburb girl a taste of living on a historic farm. The house was more than 150 years old, and the barns were even older. The visit also triggered my creative juices and I came home ready to do some writing!
My favorite photos are those of the barns. Majestically rising from the hills of the Genesee Valley, they are the crown jewels of this part of the countryside. Despite the fact that it was the middle of September, there were still many blooming flowers. I think we missed the beginning of the fall color by about 10 days.
Here are some of my favorite photos. Click on each photo to see a larger version of it.
Lisette’s Writer’s Chateau
I was invited to be a part of Lisette Brodey’s Writer’s Chateau this week! We talked about Braha and some of the methods to my madness when it comes to writing. I even revealed a few secrets. I hope you will stop by a visit us. If you have other questions I haven’t answered yet, you can always post them here. Click…
Mood Music
Music has always been one of my true loves. When I was younger, I thought I perhaps would become a songwriter one day, maybe even a singer, but the world had different plans for me. Despite a different artistic calling, music still deeply influences me. When I was writing Braha, I listened to songs that helped me feel the mood of…
A New Beginning
It doesn’t sound possible, to begin anew, but that’s what I’m doing with my blog. As many of you may know, my blog has been down for several months now, as I switched the hosting to a new server. I encountered a multitude of problems that I just couldn’t deal with, since I was in the final stages of editing,…
